Splash of Color without Splashing Out

September 9, 2010 § Leave a comment

On our last IKEA visit, I spotted a flawless, small glass shelf in the as-is room for 50 cents. (From the size, I’d guess it was supposed to go in a bathroom cabinet.) It looked a perfect fit to go under a metal wire basket I have on my bath counter to corral some odds and ends. Indeed it was.

To insert a little color onto the counter, I picked a magazine cover, cut it to size, and simply slid it under the glass. The wire basket isn’t too full, so you’ll see some of the color peeking through:

The beachy tans and blues fit the existing colors. It should look even better once we paint the back wall.

You could easily substitute a piece of scrapbooking paper, wrapping paper, fabric, artwork (by your children, for example), even blank white, or pick a bigger sheet of glass or clear acrylic for more impact. I love the simplicity and versatility of it; it’s very easy to clean, too.
