Real Homes, Real Messes, Real Life

Decorchick has a Real Homes, Real Messes, Real Life link party! As wonderful as styled, fabulous blog homes are, it’s good to remind yourself that pictures are pictures and real life is real life. She says:
“I thought this idea would be a fun way to let everyone know that we are NOT perfect, nor do we always have a spotless home like some of the blog photos would make you think. We are real people who have real everyday messes. If you ever read blogs and start feeling inadequate or not good enough because their homes are always perfect, stop right there!”
Here are a few pics from our home. (We’re lucky that there are only two of us, and we have enough space to spread our stuff far and wide.)
Most day-to-day writing and browsing happens in the breakfast nook. More serious writing and work that requires prolonged concentration or more space is taken upstairs to our respective offices. Usually the loveseat holds even more papers, books, and magazines than this picture. And wires. I can’t wait for someone to invent cordless electricity.
Most days our staircase has something that’s waiting to go upstairs. This pile has our Christmas ornaments packed away plus random home dec items.
Likewise, kitchen floor near the basement stairs holds stuff to go down: trash bags, recycling, boxes to save, tools, and supplies. Yes, our tree stand is still waiting to be packed away.
Yes, we line dry our laundry in our formal dining room. Don’t you? 😉
The best comes last, of course:
I call this my compost. Whatever comes in last, goes on top. I can’t get to the back anymore. One of the things I need to do around the house this year is to tackle this space.
