Basement: Very Preliminary Inspiration

As hinted before, we’re planning to finish our basement. It won’t be finished-finished with home grade flooring, heating, surfaces, decoration, and whatnot. We’d just like to seal the concrete walls and floor and spruce the space up a bit, maybe paint. (I’ve always found the color of unpainted concrete very depressing. Brr!)
It would be good to have some built-in shelving, either open or covered. For one, we need it for the occasional bulk item (potatoes, paper towels, etc.). If open, it could be something like here:

I’ve also already started collecting ideas for the basement stairs, which for the moment are merely unfinished plywood. We might end up just painting them a fun color.
Now we need to prepare for snow. Our corner of Massachusetts might get 6 inches (15 cm) in the next 24 hours.
