First Harvest: Heirloom Lemon Cucumber
August 1, 2014 § 2 Comments
Today Mr. E harvested his first cucumber. Yes, one cucumber – but what a hoot it was!
It’s a lemon cucumber, apparently a heirloom variety. The seed bag only gives the generic species name for cukes (Cucumis sativus), so I don’t know whether there’s a more specific way to identify the variety.
We promptly had it with lunch. The taste was delicate, slightly sweet, but not at all bitter even at the “poles” of the cucumber. The peel was a bit hard, though, but that might get softer with more time on the vine (at least that’s what Mr. E thought). We loved it!
And there’s more where that came from!
